National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a voluntary organisation of college students under the Union Ministry of Education to inculcate social consciousness and a sense of responsibility, discipline and dignity of labour among the youth. The NSS unit of the college which has been functioning since 1977 is vibrant with activities and takes up a number of social service and adult education programme every year.

The unit was started informally in the year 1971. It got official recognition in the year 1977. Dr. Amrit Sarma was the first Programme Officer of the unit. Banamali Choudhury was the first student organiser of NSS unit of the college.

The unit has been with the Adult Education Scheme from the year 1984 as a part of the policy of Government of India. The unit has been organising numerous camp in the college at different levels.

Till now the NSS unit of the college has organised two National Integration Camp in 1992 and 1998 respectively where the volunteers from all over India participated. Besides these the unit has been regularly organising different camps. The volunteers of the college unit have been representing Assam team in different camps in different places of India and bringing glory to the college.
