Understanding Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace
Mirza, 19th February: A Lecture cum Interactive Session on Understanding Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act- 2013 was organized by the IC and IQAC of Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza in order to build awareness about sexual harassment among the stakeholders of the college. The Resource Person for the session was Prof. Polly Vauquline, HoD of the Department of Women’s Studies, Gauhati University who spoke at length about the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. She also sensitized the audience regarding the rampant prevalence of the different forms of sexual harassment in both the organised and unorganised sectors, its consequences and the roles and duties of the institution towards bringing about awareness among the people.
The session began with Dr. Gargee Chakraborty, Coordinator of IQAC, inviting all the dignitaries to the dais and with the Ovation Session wherein Dr. Nabajyoti Das, Principal, D.K. College, Mirza, Prof. Polly Vauquline, the Resource Person and Dr. Namita Sharma, the Chairperson were felicitated with a phoolam gamusa. The Welcome Address for the session was delivered by the Principal who highlighted the importance of being aware about the issue of sexual harassment. The session was chaired by Dr. Namita Sharma, in-charge of IC and the Resource Person was introduced by Dr. Jilmil Bora, HoD, Department of English.
The lecture and demo session by the Resource Person was later followed by an interactive session in which the students posed some interesting questions and shared insights on the issue. The Chairperson then delivered a speech summing up the learning experience from the session. The meeting ended with Aparna Goswami, Assistant Professor, Department of English delivering the vote of thanks to all present in the occasion.
