On March 10, 2023, the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and IQAC, Dakshin Kamrup College organized a "Cyber Security Awareness Workshop" at the college auditorium. The workshop was attended by students, faculty members, and office administrative staffs.
The workshop was led by Mr. Biju Pegu, MD and CEO of GRATIA Technology Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Pegu is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), and a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) from ISACA. He has extensive experience in the field of cyber security and has provided training and consultancy to various organizations.
The workshop started with Mr. Pegu introducing the importance of cyber security and its role in protecting personal and organizational data. He explained how cyber-attacks have become more frequent and sophisticated in recent years and the need for individuals and organizations to be prepared.
Mr. Pegu then discussed the various types of cyber-attacks, including phishing, malware, and ransomware. He highlighted the damage they can cause to individuals and organizations and the importance of being aware of the risks.
During the workshop, Mr. Pegu also demonstrated how to protect our social media accounts and provided tips on how to identify and avoid suspicious emails, SMS, and VoIP calls. He emphasized the importance of being cautious and not clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.
The session also covered the best practices for protecting personal and organizational data, including the use of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and regular software updates. Mr. Pegu emphasized the importance of creating a security culture within organizations, where employees are educated about cyber security and encouraged to report any suspicious activity.
The workshop also included practical demonstrations of some of the most common cyber-attacks, such as phishing emails and malware. Mr. Pegu explained how these attacks work and how to protect against them.
The session ended with a Q&A session, where participants could ask questions and clarify their doubts. Mr. Pegu answered several questions related to cyber security, such as how to identify a phishing email and how to protect against ransomware attacks.
Overall, the workshop was informative and engaging, providing participants with valuable insights into the world of cyber security. The Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam and the Department of Computer Science and IQAC, Dakshin Kamrup College are to be commended for organizing such a useful event. Mr. Biju Pegu's expertise and knowledge in the field of cyber security was evident throughout the workshop, and his practical demonstrations helped to make the session more engaging and interactive.
