Report on Field Visit to Radio Luit 90.8 FM and Radio Mirchi 95 FM

On the 12th March the students of Center for Media Studies (all three semesters i.e., 1st, 3rd and 5th semester) visited Radio Luit (90.8 FM) and Department of Communication and Journalism as a part of their course, to have a better understanding of the working of a community radio station and exploring their future prospective as media students.

In Radio Luit (90.8 FM) they were taught how a community radio station and their programs are different from the commercial FM stations and All India Radio programs. The 3rd semester students were also taught to make programme packaging from recording audio clips to editing them according to the program’s requirement.
At the Department of Communication the students were shown the in-house studio of the department as well as the Mac editing room. The students were given a tour of the department by HOD Dr. Ankuran Dutta of the various facilities available at the department for the betterment of media students.

On the 15th of March the students of 1st and 3rd semester were invited by Radio Mirchi 95 FM for radio visit at their Guwahati Station. The demonstration was conducted by RJ Pallavi and RJ Gaurav, along with music editing head Hirak Jyoti Mahanta. The students were shown the different studios, recording and editing rooms as well as establishing how a commercial radio station and their programs are different from All India Radio and Community Radio. The Radio Jokey also elaborated how a commercial radio is mostly depend on advertisement for their survival and thus their shows mostly consists of songs and advertisement then information.
