National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Starting from February, 2021 onwards, the college has a full fledged functional NCC [Air Wing] for Senior Division (boys)/Senior Wing (girls). The new raising under the Gauhati University has been approved by the ADG (NCC-NER) on 11th February, 2021 (Ref. Letter No- 50Air/525/1/Est/NCC) under the ‘NCC Border Expansion Plan’ of Government of India for the Northeast Region.

Accordingly, Prof. Sourabh Jyoti Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science has been duly recommended to be appointed as the ‘Care Taker Officer’ (CTO) of the Dakshin Kamrup College Air NCC Unit by Dr. Nabajyoti Das, Principal of the college on 26th March, 2021 via ‘Charge Assumption Certificate’ letter to the current CO, Group Captain Robin Vishoyi of the ‘50 Assam Sqn (Fly) NCC’, GU Campus.

As on March, 2022, Dakshin Kamrup Collge Air NCC Unit is comprises of a total number of 33 Cadets i.e 16 (sixteen) 2nd year Cadets and 18 (eighteen) 1st year Cadets selected by the CO Office at Gauhati University Campus. Gender wise, there are 17 Girls and 16 Boys as SD/SW NCC Cadets. All the Cadets of our college shall be eligible to appear for the ‘career enhancing’ NCC 'B’ Certificate and NCC ‘C’ Certificate Examinations to be conducted by the NCC on all India basis.

Dakshin Kamrup College Air NCC Unit's Cadets have participated in various activities organized at the college like celebration of 15th August (Independence day), 2021 and 26th January (Republic Day) 2022 and other activities at the ground level, contributing in the holistic development of DK College.

The NCC Cadets from the Dakshin Kamrup College Air NCC Unit have also participated in various activities organized under the '50 Assam Air Sqn Flying NCC', Gauhati University nodal office like the celebrations of Swarnim Vijay Varsh, Range firing, Flying the Microlight Aircraft 'Virus SW 80', Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, International Day of Yoga , World Environment Day etc.

NCC helps us to inculcate such virtues as to become a good human being and a nationalistic, volunteer with 'India First Forever' and 'We are all Indians' mantra in our life. It provides us with a suitable environment in our career in the mighty Indian armed forces, develops good character with the disciplined leadership skill and spirited fortitude surmounting the storms and tides of an unforeseen cum adventurous life. In short, NCC gives us a 'cut above the edge’! Worthy to mention here that the UGC (Letter No -D.O.No.1-18/2019 (CPP-II) on 9th July, 2021 has directed the Vice-Chancellors of all Universities for the inclusion of NCC as an ‘Elective Credit Course Subject’ under both UG and PG CBCS Syllabus of all the affiliated colleges and the universities, respectively, from next academic year onwards.

Apart from already recognizing ‘NCC’ as an ‘Extracurricular Activity’ (ECA), henceforth, it will also be recognized as a ‘Curricular Subject’ (CS) under the new ‘National Education Policy’ (NEP), 2020, thereby, ensuring more benefits for those college and university students choosing ‘NCC’ either or both as an ECA or as a CS for their own overall skill cum futuristic career enhancement as well as for their own holistic personality development.
