Online Lecture cum Interactive Programme entitled “Gender, Mental Health and Suicide: An Intersectional Perspective” on 10-09-2021 at 3-4 p.m. (IST) to mark the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, 2021.

The programme in discussion started at the stipulated time on the same day on google meet platform. Dr. Trishna M. Thakuria, Assistant Prof and HOD, Sociology , DKC addressed the resource persons, collaborative partner IQAC, faculties and students while giving a basic outline of the issue in discussion. Dr. Jilmil Bora, Coordinator IQAC and HOD, English provided a warm welcome address to the resource persons as well as inaugurated the programme.

Dr. Mousumi Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women’s Studies, Tezpur University, Assam, the first resource person in the dias gave a comprehensive outline of the issue of mental health and underpinning gender issues while sharing various facts and figures to back up her arguments.

Dr. Jilmil Bora, Coordinator IQAC as well as HOD, English thanked Dr. Mahanta for her valuable lecture and invited second resource person Dr. Sabrina Iqbal Sircar, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, Assam to speak on the issue.

Dr. Sabrina Iqbal Sircar, spoke on myriad issues connecting mental health, suicide, domestic violence, sexuality etc. while speaking on the issue thoroughly. It was indeed a very healthy and productive session where Dr. Sircar cited various case studies.

The programme got a very good response from students of DKC as well as other universities and colleges like Tezpur University, Pragjyotish College, Cotton University etc.
