Report on Field Visit to Radio Gup-Shup 94.3 FM:

On the 17th and 18th of February 2022, the students of Center for Media Studies (3rd semester, Skill Enhancement Course) Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza were invited by Radio Gup-Shup 94.3 FM for radio visit at their main office in Dispur. The demonstration was conducted by Director of the station Wasim and Programme Head Kaushik, along with RJ Naina and sound mixing head Samrock. The students were shown the different recording studio and editing room as well as establishing how a commercial radio station and their programs are different from All India Radio and Community Radio. The RJs also elaborated how a commercial radio is mostly dependent on advertisement for their survival and thus their shows mostly consist of songs and advertisement rather than news.

The RJs also demonstrated the scheduling of different programmes and how a schedule is fixed for everyday which includes the live recording of the anchor of the show, added advertisement slots, added music and fillers. They also elaborated on how scheduling for the other four regional stations is done in the main office. The students also learnt about sound mixing and how promos, advertisements and jingles are made in the sound mixing studio for various in-house shows and clients.

It was a fruitful visit as students got to learn the different formats of programming that goes on in the FM radio stations and how each program along with the advertisement and songs are scheduled for the smooth running of the shows.
