General Rules

Selection Procedure:

Selection of applicant for admission is made strictly on merit. Canvassing directly or indirectly will disqualify the candidature of an applicant. There is provision for reservation of seats for students belonging to SC, ST(P), ST(H), OBC, MOBC, physically handicapped categories as per Govt. rules. A few seats may be allotted to the students having outstanding performance in the field of sports, culture and NCUNSS (minimum state level). Candidates are required to produce at the time of interview the original copies of

• Mark Sheet of last qualifying examination
• Age certificate
• Character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended
• Caste certificate where necessary
• Students who passed the qualifying examination earlier than the current year will have to submit a certificate giving the reason of the gap from the Head of the Institution last attended.

Gauhati University has introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in UG courses from 2019 onwards. Some of the salient features of this system are as follows:

• Admission to the 1st semester T. D. C. classes will be completed as per Gauhati University notification.
• The Classes will commence from 1st August.
• Sessional exams. for 1st semester will be completed by 1st half of September each year.
• End semester exams for 1st semester will be completed by December each year. This will be followed by the evaluation period of 10 days.
• End semester exam results will be declared within 45 days of the last exam held.
• 2nd semester classes will commence from January each year.
• Sessional exams of 2nd semester will be completed by 1st week of March.
• End semester exams of 2nd semester will be completed by June each year.
• Declaration of end semester exam result will be done within 45 days of the last day of exam.

REGULATIONS FOR T.D.C. SEMESTER SYSTEM

1. The T.D.C. course shall have six semesters covering three calendar years.
2. 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters (including exams.)- July 16th December 31st.
3. 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters (including exams.)- January 2nd July 15th.
4. Semester break 1st July - 31st July. Students' performance will be monitored throughout the semester by continuous assessment in the theory and practical courses. Evaluation of the students' performance in each of the theory and practical papers will be based on the following: Internal evaluation - 20% marks External evaluation  - 80% marks
5. Internal evaluation will be done based on sessional examinations, home assignments, seminars and library work.
6. External evaluation will be done through a final examination at the end of the semester.
7. The pass mark in each theory paper is 30% and that in each practical paper is 40%.
8. In each paper the student must secure pass mark in both internal and external evaluation separately.
9. A student who could not appear or failed in any semester exam will be allowed to clear the same as follows:

(a) First semester with the regular Third semester examination.

(b)Second semester with the regular Fourth semester examination.

(c) Third with the regular Fifth semester examination.

(d)Fourth semester with the regular Sixth semester examination.

10. A student will be allowed to"repeat" any of the theory papers in the First, Second and Third semester, provided the student secures less than 45% marks in that paper.
11. No "repeat"/ "betterment" will be allowed in the practical examinations in any semester.
12. A student must pass all the semester examinations including "repeat" and "betterment" chances within five years from the date of admission to the First year semester course. A student will get maximum three chances to clear a particular semester.
13. Since the semester involves continuous assessment there will be no scope for a student to appear as a private candidate in any subject.
14. A student must appear and pass in each subject in the sessional examination conducted by the concerned department. No medical certificate what so ever will be considered in lieu of sessional examination. Evaluated scripts will be sent to the University for verification. Thus, failing in the sessional examination means failing in the session ending semester examination.

Examination and Attendance Rules

1. All students must appear in all the examinations conducted by the college during an academic year.
2. There will be 4 Unit Tests or sessional exams. in an academic session and presence in each Unit Test or sessional exam is mandatory for all students. 20% of marks secured in the Unit Test will be added in the Final examination. Those who do not appear in the Unit Test will not be allowed to appear in the Final examination.
3. Attendance in class is compulsory for all. A student should attend at least 75% of classes held, failing which he/she shall be declared non-collegiate and those failing to attend 60% of the classes will be declared dis-collegiate.
4. Non-collegiate students will forfeit the benefit of Scholarship. Dis-collegiate students will not be allowed to appear in final examinations or promoted to the next higher class.

Identity Card

• Identity cards issued to students will remain valid for one academic year only. Fresh identity card will have to be obtained every year from the concerned authority. Students will have to paste a stamp size recent photograph in the identity card.
